2862 DNS Config Issue was created by alucidnation
Hi guys,

I am currently running my 2862 in bridge mode as modem only into a Ubiquiti Edgerouter 4, however, the modem seems to force Google DNS servers.

Is there any way i can change this to use my ISP servers as they are very good.

Thanks.

Why not set the ER4 to the ISPs DNS severs?

Code:
set service dns forwarding name-server 8.8.8.8

This would change them, replace 8.8.8.8 with your ISPs DNS servers.

Personally I’d stick with google or someone like quad 9, your ISP doesn’t need any more information to sell! :)

Thanks for the help.

One thing i forgot to mention is that my IP & DNS are both dynamic (Plusnet).

If i go into the settings on the Draytek, the DNS fields are actually blank, as i deleted them when i set it up in bridge, and so i assumed it would pull them in from my ISP.

Reason for going with them for now is i am also having connectivity issues so i am trying to keep everything straight.

Does the Draytek default to Googles servers?

:)

Edit:

Just realised the Draytek is only showing what its given from the ER.

And also found a handy link for setting it up from Ubiquiti.

ok, as a bit of an update.

My 2862 is still showing Googles DNS as what the router is apparently using.

IP Address TX Packets RX Packets Router Primary DNS: Router Secondary DNS:
192.168.1.1 13,226 12,702 8.8.8.8 8.8.4.4

I have rebooted the modem but still the same.

The ER4 is showing as using my ISP DNS.

Any pointers?

Is what the modem is showing being 'ignored' and not relevant?

Thanks again.

If the 2862 is being used in Bridge mode, it's passing through the DHCP transaction to your Edge router and can't modify that DNS transaction. So it would need to be the Edge router that sets the DNS servers it's using instead of the DHCP provided ones.
