Hi,

I have 2860 which routes incoming emails via SMTP open port into email server.

I would like to use built in WCF/Cyren for filtering out dodgy/scammy IP addresses using custom firewall rule.

I think Cyren keeps a good aye on dodgy IPs aroudn the internet so it would be nice to block any comms from scammers to my mail server though firewall/Cyren.

Has anyone tried this before and can share some info ?

For example I can see that this IP 177.107.186.126 is blacklisted on Spamhous DB.
I can see that Cyren knows that this IP is High Risk becasue "This IP address is used for sending Spam on a regular basis"

Which category on WCF will pick this up ?

I don’t think that you can use the WCF that way.

Would a proper anti spam appliance not be better suited to this? There are free ones which would do the job for most situations.

I'm already using pretty good anti-spam solution but its not through Cyren and their DB is vast - still, sometimes, odd emails slips though the net and I'm wondering if WCF/Cyren could help with this.

Spammer IP is being recognised in their database anyway. Its a case of checking if the built in filter can make a use of this info or not.

I pretty sure that WCF is for outbound traffic only.

Thanks for the comment. It maybe as you say. I've logged a call with Draytek to confirm this.

WCF can filter standard web content, mainly preventing users from accessing web sites in categories you have chosen to restrict.

It is not an email filtering tool so you will have to find an alternative method for that. I find the main email providers (gmail, outlook etc) do a good job of filtering junk mail.
