When I have connected in the past via ADSL I get an indication of up/down speeds on the dashboard. This gave me very specific figures about my current speed that I could refer to when speaking to BT. Now that I have FTTP, I'm connecting over ethernet and I don't get any of those statistics. My only recourse is to use an external speed checker, which is going to be less than accurate.

Is there a way for me to determine this, either through the GUI, or by command line via telnet to the router?

If you go into
Diagnostics > DSL status it should give you the line statistics like this:


Downstream Upstream
Actual Rate 54997 Kbps 9999 Kbps
Attainable Rate 56821 Kbps 11715 Kbps

This matches when I do a speed test online so might be what you are looking for?

Thanks for that, but this isn't DSL. This is now Fibre To The Premises (FTTP). Statistics are typically zero.

This is what I see:

Does the data flow monitor not show the peak speeds, as well as current speed?

Yes, but that's not the actual maximum. It's a historical maximum.

For example, I took two snapshots. One idle, and then one during a speed test. The 'maximum' (i.e. the peak) shouldn't really change at all if it truly reflected the potential throughput. With DSL, this is clear (and accurate).

Your not going to get things like actual rate/attainable rate etc on a ethernet wan connection, those figures are based on the DSL characteristics of a ADSL/VDSL line (SNR/db etc).
An FTTP connection should give you what you pay for so you wont have any other option but to use a speed test site.
If your speed tests come back constantly as greatly different from what you pay for at various times of the day then i'd log a fault with your ISP.
Speed tests should be done via wire not wifi.
