Cannot get my new Sky FTTC to work on my 2830n v2

Hello friends,

I recently had my Sky ADSL upgraded. They didn't change anything at the house and the entire upgrade was performed at the exchange side. They just sent me a new router: ER110.

I was previously using my Draytek 2830n on my old Sky Adsl, but I cannot for the life of me get it to work with this new connection. Physically nothing has changed, it's still the old RJ cable from the wall socket directly into the DSL port of the new Sky router, so my thinking was that providing I get the settings correct on my Draytek 2830n it should work.

I have configured DHCP option 61 and the details for option 60, but the damned thing just won't connect.

Does the Draytek 2830n even support this kind of connection?

Any help is appreciated, here are the screenshots of my settings:

Upgraded, in what way?

Is it still ADSL? (The 2830n doesn't directly support VDSL/FTTC  )

Also, your 1st screen shot shows the 2830 configured to use ADSL (WAN1) - so where does the SKY Router come into the configuration? (If you were using it as a Modem/Bridge, the 2830 would be connected to it via ethernet (WAN2) :?

It's VDSL I am guessing (the thread title mistakenly says FTTC) as the same RJ11 cable is being used. From the wall telephone socket - > into the DSL port of the new Sky router.

However I want to eliminate the Sky router completely as I did with the ADSL, but I now realise this will not work if the 2830n doesn't support VDSL. I do not want to use the Sky Hub at all.

I do have a Cisco 887VA, does it support VDSL natively without having to use a modem or the Sky Hub?

Thanks

I'm not familiar with any Cisco products - but a quick Google found one on Amazon - the spec. seems to indicate that it's ADSL only.

I found a Skyuser forum thread that indicates that the ER110 can't be put into 'Bridge Mode': http://www.skyuser.co.uk/forum/sky-broadband-fibre-help/60926-er110-modem-only-mode-2.html .

You need to either acquire a separate modem, (or router that can be put into Bridge Mode) or upgrade the 2830n to something that is VDSL compatible.

In the past , I suggested an old Huawei HG633 (probably ex Talktalk) to someone @ £13 on eBay : https://bit.ly/34EhI33 ], or there's Draytek's own Vigor 130 at a somewhat higher cost .

Be aware, that the maximum throughput of the 2830n (with the firewall on), is somewhere around the 80Mbps mark - so, with a good FTTC connection, you'll be approaching its limits (I'm not sure if the V2 improved performance).

Thank you so much for the advice.

I have decided to go with the Cisco. The 887VA does have a built-in VDSL modem and I was able to connect to Sky straight away with it.

Thanks again
