DNS Force Update - what does this mean? was created by spineonabap
Okay it's not a major issue, but every now and then our connection (at work) goes down for 60 seconds or so and the one thing I keep seeing in the syslog at the start of the problemn is this -

Any clues?

The router is a 2920 and the front line modem is a Vigor 130 in factory settings (as the manual says, you shouldn't need to change anything). But I've checked anyway and there's nothing I can see in the 130 setup that would be a problem.

But we keep getting these 60 second dropouts and this message in the syslog when it happens.
(PS we don't use any kind of dynamic DNS or any set up)

[WEB]Dynamic DNS Setup> Force Update

Becoming a bit annoying now!

I supposed the [WEB] DNS message could be a consequence of something else. Just thought I'd ask :)

I assume that all the ddns services under applications are disabled (or not even defined)?

That could just be a consequence of it noticing the line come back up. ISTR that there's a log of Dynamic DNS activity - it might just say it ran, but did nothing.

Which still leaves you with the question of why the line drops. You needs some logs from the Vigor 130. (Unless it's something as simple as a dodgy UTP cable).

Thanks for the replies. I forgot I posted this haha

I reported it the Zen (our service provider) on 25th Jan and they detected a fault and booked an Openreach engineer. Since the moment I reported it & they ran the test its been rock solid (typical haha) so I've delayed the engineer visit until Feb & will continue to monitor...

mbames - you're correct. Nothing set up or defined at all anywhere in the configuration. We don't use DDNS. There's nothing in the Vig 130 either.
