Infinity 2 80MB->FTTP 900Mbps & 2860?

Hi there,

Longstanding DrayTek user here from way back in the 2820 days through current 2860Vn+ connected to P2261 feeding P2121 x3 via SFP and AP902 & AP910C x 2 via PoE so a complete DrayTek network infrastructure.

I have had BT FTTC Infinity 2 80/20MB for many years now and have recently placed an order for BT FTTP Full Fibre 900 and although I realise the 2860 firewall limits throughput to 300Mbps best case scenario it will have to do the job for the time being although I intend to replace it with the 2866ac at some point in the near future.

My questions are;

1. Can I do what I have done for years and leave the shrink-wrapped BT supplied modem in its box and just plug the 2860 WAN2 directly into the OpenReach ONT?
2. If I can will I have to change any settings to allow the 2860 to connect to BT ISP?
3. If I can't is it possible to put the supplied BT Full Fibre modem into Bridge mode and plug 2860 WAN2 into the BT modem using the 2860 to do all the tricks?

Are there any other gotcha's when using the 2860 and changing from 80MB to Full Fibre?

Thanks & kind regards,

I've been told that if you disable the FW and Data Flow Monitor and enable HW Acceleration, a 2860 will go a lot faster than 300Mb. Ofcourse, you'll be without those features.

  • Yes you can.

  • You'll have to put your Zen username and password in WAN / Internet Access / WAN2 / PPPoE page. Make sure you leave the Service Name blank.

  • Pass. Worst case you can double NAT by putting the 2860 in the DMZ of the BT modem. Not necessary though as above.
