Agreed it matters more if you're using VDSL, but for those on FTTP where the upstream device is an ONT or other ethernet network device, I don't think it matters at all.

There is a modem change between STD and BT - at least for the 2865/66 models.

From the UK pages:-
4.4.5.2_BT123230_05 and123210_14
4.4.5.2 (Standard)123230_02 and 123210_30

In operation this has never made any difference for me (and I know that won't be the same for everyone - but I suspect for anybody with a half decent VDSL line it will be the case)

So the UK pages gives you the option to download ALL the variants anyway. They're just outdated in comparison with the global site / the .NL site / the .AU site....you get the idea. I suspect somebody in the UK is overly cautious.
