I have a Draytek 2865 Router and VigorSwitch PQ2200XB connected together. The switch and router communicate correctly with the shared management interface, etc.

For information there are three VLANs, the Default (1) and two further tagged ones. I'm not using any of the L3 features,

I can connect clients onto the Default VLAN on both the router and switch using DHCP served from the router on the Default VLAN. I can also can connect my NAS on a static IP on the router, but when I do the same with the switch the indicator shows there's a device connected but the IP address is blank and I cannot see the NAS drive on the network. If I connect the NAS to the switch via DHCP then I can see the NAS drive on the network.

Is there something silly that I'm doing wrong?

Hi, I'm cannot even connect the NAS using DHCP with a cable directly connected to the switch. I've tried using Access and Trunk mode on the port with no success. Many thanks

I'll attempt to help here although I've much older switches than your PQ2200XB (which looks a very capable unit).

I've had a play with the demo and in configuration -> port setup there is the VLAN Interface tab.

In that, I would expect one port to be set as "trunk". This should convey the tagged VLANS from your 2865 Router to the switch.

The remaining ports will be "access".

In my much older switch, however, I've got all the ports set to "hybrid" and that works OK.

How I THINK this works is that if you want a device in port 1 to be in VLAN 10 and the device isn't set to do tagging you put the VLAN number in the port.

You also (it seems) need to create the VLANS to match the router in Configuration -> VLAN setup.

I have now solved my problem, which actually turned out to be multiple issues. One of the ethernet ports on my NAS is faulty, so no link aggregation unless I fix that.

Poor cables was the second issue, so all patch cables now replaced with CAT6a, now providing consistent 2.5Gb connections. 

The fixed IP Addresses have been resolved by binding an IP Address to the MAC address of those devices. 

The VLAN configuration is now being shared across the single management console of the Router, so VLANs are now finding a path through to the Access Points, etc.
