Weird VPN Connection Problem was created by edispah
Hi

I have a weird problem, im have a 2820 Firmware is 3.2.1

I have a PPTP VPN (standard microsoft client) set up from my XP client, I attempt a connection and just get a timeout.

If I navigate to the browser web interface of the 2820 (remote managment is enabled) and then try the VPN client it works!

I thought I was going mad but its 100% consistent over the last few months, try a VPN connection x 10 and get x10 timeouts, connect to the web interface and they try it works 1st time, everytime!

Anyone else seen anything like this?

Paul

Have you got any firewall software running on the pc ?????

Think if it was me I would try another pc see if you get the same problem, if so its a router issue somewhere maybe config if not then its something on the pc causing the problem.

Hi, we are seeing the exact same problem and also noticed that if we browse to web interface then VPN connection is fine. We have hundreds of 2800 and 2820 deployed. Seems to only happen with the 2820 and with some of the 2800 if on the very latest firmware.
Happening across all different routers and different clients and there is no pattern I can find as to when it happens. The older 2800 we have no problems with.
Been meaning to ask on here for a while.

Anyone every come up with a solution?

Starting to lose faith in these products to be honest.

We have this problem and have been troubleshooting it for some time, we can replicate this issue on 2 2820's and a 2600 if we swap one for that, error 651 on the client vpn and after multiple attempts to connect it will work and the 1 hour later not work again. Until either you login to the web interface or sometime ping the routers external IP. Very frustrating.
