router to router vpn ping most but not all was created by auditmaster
Hello,

Two vigor routers build the vpn. One is 10.1.1.1 the remote is 10.1.2.1. The VPN works perfectly in all respects apart from...

I can ping servers and computers in 10.1.1.xxx from the remote 10.1.2.yyy except for one that happens to be 10.1.1.2

I can ping 10.1.1.2 happily from within 10.1.1.xxx, its just from a client in the remote location.

Any thoughts? Enough info?

Many thanks

Stuart

What sort of device is at 10.1.1.2? I cannot ping my brothers wireless router which is acting as an access point through our VPN. I think a number of devices like this and some print servers only respond to pings and web management from their own subnet.

Its actually my PABX (a NEC XN120). I can accept what your saying, but a related problem that started this off is access to it remotley. The software I use talks over TCP port 8000. I have used the port redirection to make sure that the port is redirected to 10.1.1.2 port 8000 but still cant "access" the router from outside the LAN.
Perhaps the "ping" problem is a red herring and I should concentrate on the port issue. Am I being silly or should it be simple enough to ensure that all TCP traffic that comes in on port 8000 is redirected to 10.1.1.2 port 8000?
Anyway, thanks for your help

I can't help you here. I could not crack the problem. Even at home I have the possibility of 2 subnets and I can't access my old router (now used as a WAP) from the other subnet. I will give it another go sometime.

Port redirection should not be an issue either as anything coming in on the vpn should automatically be able to go to anything at the other end.

Can your PABX be set up to allow traffic from more than one subnet? I think I would contact your PABX support.
