I've got a 2820n and I'm trying to set it up so that I can access iPlayer etc while I'm abroad. Is there a simple newb guide on how to do this?

This would be a good place to start:

The only other thing you would need to do is make sure the client has "Use Default gateway on Remote Network" selected within the VPN Settings. For XP right client the VPN within Connections

Properties -> Networking

IP Protocol -> Properties

Tick the box

Dont forgot that this may be a little slow for iPlayer as if you are on a standard ADSL then the data received on the remote PC will travel from BBC -> Draytek 2820 -> remote PC. The upload speed on the 2820 / standard ADSL will be your limiting factor as that may only be 0.5mb.

thanks guys. I am that much of a newb when it comes to VPN that I wasn't even sure which FAQ i needed.

could you tell me what it is I'm trying to do? is it effectively teleworker to vigor via IPSEC? How does that then route the traffic out/in from the internet? ie. why is not an 'endpoint'.

For a teleworker, keep clear of IPSec as you need to define his WAN IP as part of his set up. This is a PITA if he keeps moving locations. Also IPSec is not very NAT friendly and can give problems if he is behind a router.

Possibly the most NAT friendly is OpenVPN but I have no experience of it. Alternatively go for a PPTP VPN.

I'm being an idiot I suspect but I don't understand how this works.

What I want to do is this: Go abroad and somehow route all my web traffic back through my 2820n so that to websites like the iPlayer, it looks like I'm in the UK.

If I setup the router as described here - http://www.draytek.co.uk/support/vpn_setup2.html - I'm not clear how this routes my web traffic? Surely I'm just connecting to the router? do I not have to do some sort of port forwarding or NAT?
