Cannot VPN to any Draytek router was created by conival
OK, this one is completely strange. I have 5 clients running Draytek router (mostly 2800, 2820s) and I can usually VPN into each of them no problem. However as of yesterday (1-3-11) I could not connect to any of them.
I have other clients with other router makes - all OK
I can remotley access all the routers via http no problem
I've remotely rebooted all of them - no change.
I've tried 2 PCs (Win 7 & XP + my iPhone (wi-fi & 3G) - no success
However, late last night everything started working even though I hadn't changed anything. But... this morning - same problem.
They are all set up to use the basic PPTP. The connection sits at "verifying user name & password" before retrying & eventualy timing out.
I've re-setup the VPN on the router (including username & password) - no change
Just can't get my head around the fact that it's only affecting Draytek clients
Any ideas anyone?

There is a chance, that the problem is at your end:
Depending on the manufacturer and model of the router you are using to access the internet, there might be a limit of the number of PPtP connections you are able to use. Also, some times, the router is unable to determine if a PPtP session is closed or open.
If this happens again, reboot your router. If the problem then goes away, my guess might be correct.
dont know, if this is related to draytek products on the remote side, I have observed this with other manufacturer products.

Thanks for replying.
It's possible the problem is at my end, but I've used the same router for over a year with no problems (no firmware updates either). The fact that other clients who use non-Draytek routers are all fine is also odd.
However I'll keep hammering away at the problem & let you all know if I find an answer

OK, problem solved (sort of). Plugged in another router - everything fine.
Can't understand why original router which had previously worked no problem (and still connects to other non-Draytek routers) suddenly would not VPN to any Draytek router, but I can't be bothered spending more time on the problem!!
