2800vg 2.8.2b1 will not connect to Windows VPN server.. was created by cjard
Yet I downloaded the "smart client" windows exe, and ran it, set a few things and it conencted OK..
I have set in smartclient:
ip address
username
password
pptp
require encryption
ms-chap
I have set in draytek router:
enable
dialout
300 seconds idle
pptp
same ip address as above
same username as above
same password as above
PAP/CHAP
remote network IP
RIP disable
Telnet and log -c -t simply shows:
(time) dialing Node3 (name): (ip)
(time) PPP Start (vpn-0, username)
log -p -t shows some >>>>PPTP entries
Can anyone explain what the problem is or how I can get more logging info? Ta

Eventually figured this out with the help of an ISP in america..
In the VPN and Remote Acces >> Remote Access Control page, there are 3 tickboxes: IPSec, PPTP, L2TP, which invite you to tick them (if you want the router to be a VPN server) or untick them (if you want to enable passthrough
It's probably obvious to pros, but it wasnt obvious to this newbie, that if the router is in passthrough mode, it wont attempt to dial a VPN even though the call logs indicate that it is doing so..
I suggested to draytek that they put a note on this page to affirm this, because after ticking the IPSEC and PPTP to "on", the router instantly established the VPNs I'd set up. Some words to the effect of "These boxes must be ticked ON if you want the router to dial out as a client too" rather than purely mentioning service.. Or an entry in the logs of "will not dial because router is in passthrough mode" would be great, nudge nudge!
