Fastest VPN Connection IPSEC/PPTP/L2TP was created by stuey
Hi, we have 3 sites with 2820Vn's and find that the PPTP can be very slow, would another protocol e.g. IPSEC or L2TP help to speed it up?
The main office has 40Mb down / 10Mb up BT Business FTTC recently, however the remotes are still slow. Both 20 down / 1.3 up.
Thanks in advance.

I'd be very interested in this answer too.
I always thought that PPTP was the best for speed as it had the lowest overhead, but of course the least security.

Could you go for an Annex M service which would double the upstream ? This would help, regardless of the most speedy VPN protocol. Regards, Neal...the remotes are still slow. Both 20 down / 1.3 up...stuey wrote:

Just reading the V3200 manual and it confirms what I thought. The VPN throughput ranking (1 is the highest; 5 is the lowest):
1. PPTP (none encryption)
2. L2TP
3. IPSec
4. L2TP over IPSec
5 PPTP (Encryption)
1. PPTP (none encryption)
2. L2TP
3. IPSec
4. L2TP over IPSec
5 PPTP (Encryption)
