Draytek 2820 Lan2Lan VPN breaks DNS lookups was created by beamrider
Hi
When I connect to a commercial VPN provider using LAN2LAN [PPTP] I find that my DNS lookups become very flaking with typically only 50% succeeding. This seems to be time dependant as well as sometimes they start working again for a while then stop etc.
I performed a trace route to the primary and secondary DNS indicated on the OnLine status page of the router and both appeared to be OK..
I am on latest firmware 3.3.7_232201 - 232201_A Hardware: Annex A
Any suggestions?
Section 4. TCP/IP Network Settings configuration is as follows:
My WAN IP 0.0.0.0
Remote Gateway IP 0.0.0.0
Remote Network IP 0.0.0.0
Remote Network Mask 255.255.255.0
Local Network IP 192.168.1.0
Local Network Mask 255.255.255.0
RIP Direction Disable
From first subnet to remote network, you have to do NAT
Change default route to this VPN tunnel ( Only single WAN supports this ) [CHECKED]

Hi,
From your setup, you Enabled :
"Change default route to this VPN tunnel ( Only single WAN supports this ) [CHECKED]"
Which mean ALL traffic (including DNS's) will go through via this VPN tunnel, check if you're using correct DNS's from remote Site VPN Server.
regards,
rj

Thanks for the reply.
For anyone else having this problem, I added a static route on the router to my ISPs DNS server bypassing the VPN which solved the problem.
