2850 VPN Performance was created by moi
Hi All,

Have just completed some thru-put testing on the 2850 and was looking for any comments on my results. They look a little low against the specifications - so if anybody has any thoughts on what I am doing wrong then that would be heloful.

Two 2850's tied back to back on the WAN2 ports (10.10.1.0 range)
Laptop A on LAN1 (Router A) - 192.168.10.0
Laptop B on LAN1 (Router B) - 192.168.10.0

A VPN tunnel using PPTP with MPPE between the two 2850's.

Tunnel performance using iperf measured at 6Mbits/sec (running for 6 hours).
No issues found with stability at max speed over the 6 hours, but the thruput performance was much lower than the stated 20Mbits/s in the specs.

While I was at it, I did a WAN thruput test (without VPN) for comparrision. This came out at 35Mbits/sec - also much lower than the stated 100Mbits/s. Local LAN speed came out at full speed (95Mbits/s - I only had a 100Mbit card in one of the laptops).

In summary, thruput performance of 2850 (measured) was:
Local LAN: 95Mbits/sec
Firewall/NAT performance: 35Mbits/sec
VPN PPTP Tunnel performance: 6Mbits/sec

Any thoughts/ comments - anybody else got their own measurements for other draytek routers? Anything I could have done wrong in my measurements or config?

Ta.
Moi
