2830 and Android VPN was created by fat freddies cat
Hi Folks

A quick search of the forum found a couple of similar questions but no answers.

I've got a brand new Vigor 2830 working absolutely fine. I've set up VPN on the router and I can create a VPN from my computer using L2TP/IPSec with a shared key – so things basically work OK.

I'd like to set up my phone to use a VPN too. The phone's running Android ICS. Briefly I tried L2TP/IPSec but as I've never got far with that on Android, I've concentrated more on PPTP - but that's not working for me either.

Does anyone have any obvious gotchas which need working around?

Thanks

So to answer my own question - and it's an embarrassing "doh!" error.

http://www.draytek.co.uk/support/kb_vigor_vpncheck.html gave me info as to how to access the appropriate logs. "No such entry" for my user. Which isn't true.

Back to handset. Delete user. Hold on. There seems to be a space at the end of the user name.

And after that. All OK. At least for PPTP.

As far as I can gather, the L2TP/IPSec implementation on current iterations of Android doesn't follow the specs to the letter which results in some (most?) VPN servers not working well with Android. I'll accept PPTP on my phone if that's all I can get.
