OSX - Slow Virgin to Virgin VPN using AFP was created by iamwill
Hi
I've not got much experience setting up a VPN, any help would be massively appreciated.
I've set up a VPN joining my residential office to my work office. I've got a Vigor2830n at each location with a 100mb virgin cable connection (and a ADSL at each connection). I've tested the speeds at both locations using speed test and have a good 80 - 110Mbps Download and a 10 Mbps Upload. I'm getting 8 - 14 Mbps uploading files to my web server in Germany. When I try and download files over the VPN I'm getting 1 Mbps and very slow directory listings.
I'm using the AFP feature in OS X.
I don't think it's traffic shaping by Virgin Media as I get exactly the same speed and sluggish directory listings when I use ADSL or a combination of ADSL and Virgin Media Cable.
It would be great if anyone had advice on how to get the correct speed.
Many thanks for any help

What sort of Site to site connection is it?
I think the VPN speed is about 25 MB on the 2830 so you should get more than 1Mb if you have good fibre at both ends.
Are you running DUAL WAN? Unplug the ADSL and just to the fibre to test it
Make sure QOS is disabled as well
