Issues with L2TP VPN Client to Router was created by strayfe
Hi Guys,
I am having an issue with a current configuration I am trying to create:
DrayTek 2920 - Firmware Version: 3.6.4 (May 22 2013)
Remote Dial-In User
- L2TP with IPsec Policy is set to: MUST
- Username and Password is set: Yes
- Specify Remote Node: Unticked
- Subnet: LAN 1
IPsec General Setup
- IKE Pre-Shared Key: Set
- IPsec Security Method: Medium (AH) Ticked High (ESP) [DES] Ticked [3DES] Ticked [AES] Ticked
DHCP of LAN 1 is disabled and as such we have in PPP General Setup we have a starting IP Pool for the RDP Users
Remote Access Control
- Only Enable L2TP VPN service is ticked
I am currently trying to connect from a Windows 8 client which is receiving the following error:
"Error 789: The L2TP connection attempt failed because the security layer encountered a processing error during initial negotiations with the remote computer."
Any help would be appreciated, one article I found online stated that this may be a NAT issue?
Thanks.

I think you also need the IPSEC VPN option ticked in Remote Access Control - well that is what I had to do to get it working.
