VPN In via 4G Dongle was created by dlogan83
Hi,

We have a 2820N. It works fine. Connected via BT and as usual the connection speeds are poor. I would like to VPN on to our 2820n and was wondering if anyone have tried to use a 4g Dongle as an inbound connection to get around the slow speeds or even if this would be possible!!?.

Thanks
David.

I have used a 3G modem in the past (about 5x faster than our ADSL at the time!)

It worked well for us, and load balancing between the two was handy too.

How well it works will depend on your application, we use the vpn for remote desktop into a server. For that latency becomes an issue as well as pure speed (think 2-3seconds from keypress to typing appearing on screen!) 3G was better than the ADSL line, but still not great, and in the end we went to a leased line.

If all you need is speed then 4g could well be your solution, if you need responsiveness as well it could be an improvement, but you may end up looking for a higher quality wired solution. There are 1 month contracts out there if you want to try it out.
