Vigor 2865 obtain local IP address was created by amoltu
Newbie to VPNs.
Wanting to remote control a TV device on via an app on my mobile.
When on home network I can use the app, however when on the vpn the app won't work because my phone isn't on the same network as the device.
The VPN connects and shows the same public IP address as my router but the phone doesn't show on the home network.
Likewise I can't access files on the local network when I am out and about.
Clearly I have missed something?

Clients connected to a network via a VPN have no broadcast functionality. Many of these TV remote control Apps want to scan a network to discover what's there and then connect. This won't work.
You would need to see if your App can connect to the TV's IP directly (ie hardcode it).
