Vigor 2927 that just won't do VPN - Help was created by Cliff in Auld Reekie
If I'm reading page:
https://www.draytek.com/support/knowledge-base/5275
. ... correctly, then by step 3 of the first section "Setup on Vigor Router", I should see some VPN signs of live in the router. This document indicates that router menu option: VPN and Remote Access >> Connection Management should show some kind of VPN status (with colours denoting the encryption state.I have completed steps 1 and 2 and I see nothing whatsoever. Does anyone have experience of this and find themselves able to suggest a way forward. It doesn't seem to matter what type of VPN protocol I try to setup, the 2927 just shows nothing. If the guide is correct and I should see life, then clearly there is nothing I can do in any client that would successfully connect. If I do try to connect from a suitably configured client, I get "a no response from server" error as I'd expect - given that it doesn't seem to be in a waiting for connections state. So, to move forward:Would setting the router back to factory settings and reconfiguring the whole thing remedy this or is it more likely that the router hardware is defective. I have upgraded it to firmware 4.4.5.8 successfully.
I should say that my ISP is VirginMedia.

VPN and Remote Access >> Connection Management will only show you connections which are successful/established. This screen won't show clients which are not connected at all.
When you are diagnostic this and checking if anything is happening at all with the router - look at the logs
Diagnostics >> Syslog Explorer >> Syslog Type - VPN
This way you will see on the router If anyone is 'knocking' to let them in.
Also, please remember that you need to be outside of the LAN network to test the VPN. So connect your device to another broadband or mobile hotspot and then try dialling VPN. Then check the logs.
Also, another note, your router must have an external WAN IP and obviously you need to know it yourself. If VirginMedia is using dynamic IP - so if they do give you one but it changes every so often - look into Dynamic DNS and set up VPN through this Dynamic DNS domain, instead of IP.
Hope this helps.
