AP-800 repeater mode was created by roboughton
anyone ever got this working? the instructions are junk, the kit responds like a dog im very disapointed but even more anoying its not mine and I advised some one to buy it based on my other experiences with draytek products.

The firmware seems to be very buggy as the wizard doesnt work it wont let you select a WLAN to use for the repeater mode.

one thing i note is difrent between the firmwares is router says

Model : VigorAP 800
Firmware Version : 1.0.2
Build Date/Time : r1509 Fri Feb 25 10:26:12 CST 2011
System Date : Sat Jan 1 00:00:54 2000
System Uptime : 0d 00:00:54
Operation Mode : Universal Repeater

The release downloadable from the website says

Release Notes for VigorAP 800
Firmware Version : 1.0.2 (formal release)
Release Date : 24th March 2011
Build Date : 8th March 2011
Applicable Models : VigorAP 800
Locale : UK ONLY

So the dates are difrent but the release is the same, i wont allow me to put the one from the doenload onto it to I assume its the same it just crashes out but then again its a kind of habbit for this thing to do that.

This month saw the release of 1.0.3 on the international FTP site. I'd be very tempted to give that a go.

New Features
  • Add Auto Detection Feature on Vigor Series Product

Improvement
  • Improved: Add notes for notifying 5G only supports AP mode
Improved: Support default DNS server IP for TR-069
Improved: Support SSID feature selection for AP Discovery of wizard
Improved: Support 1 and 2 for VLAN ID
Improved: Add the Mixed (11g+11n) mode for wireless
Fixed: VLAN TAG function doesn't work while LAN B is not enabled
Fixed: SSID2 VLAN ID setting causes SSID1 wireless client cannot get DHCP IP.
Fixed: Not trying to connect ACS server after a reboot.
    Fixed: Wrong Throughput display
Fixed: AP800 keeps the old IP when connecting to an AP with Universal Repeater mode
Fixed: Cannot add profile from site survey page when using station-infrastructure mode
Fixed: Isolate LAN on first SSID causes other SSIDs also not reaching the LAN

From the release notes. Regards, Neal

Universal repeater mode is as easy as pie to get working.

As neal points out; the very latest firmware is available from ftp.draytek.com, get 1.0.3

In regards to repeater mode:

1. set up the wireless on the router. User WPA2/PSK only for the security.

2. Access the AP and configure the Wireless LAN general setup page as you desire.

3. On the AP, configured the Wireless LAN\Security page to EXACTLY MATCH that of the router. same encryption, same preshared key.

4. Go to the AP discovery section. Run a scan, select the routers SSID and click the 'use as repeater' button.

5. On the repeater configuration page again set up the wireless security EXACTLY as defined on the router. Thats WPA2/PSK with AES encyrption algorithms. Dont use mixed mode, its pants.

And that should be it really. If it aint working, you aint doing it right.

Thanls guys I will try the firmware from the international site, god knows why they havent one on the UK site.

I have set it up to use all the same as the main WiFi router just given the repeater part a new LAN name but as soon as i remove the cable i lose the internet but I can still see the LAN.

I will do the firmware and see what that does.

The instructions are junk though

What about the SSID on the repeater, does that need to be the same too?

Regards
Philip

With the AP800, you can have a different SSID and for the actual connection from AP to clients, you can even set different security settings under Wireless LAN - Security, it's just the Universal Repeater settings that have to match up with the router.
On the AP700 the security has to match for both parts but you can also use a different SSID
