AP 800 Setup was created by pepps1976
Hi hope somebody can help me
I have Four Draytek AP 800 and what i would like to be able to do is place them around various points of the building but have it so that if a user goes out of range then it will pick up the nearest one.
So how would i setup four of these so that the users only has to initially connect to one but will get signal strength from the nearest one.

Just use the same SSID on each AP but also remember to put each AP on a different channel. Ideally use 1, 7 and 13 for max throughput which means two AP swill nead to share the same channel just make sure they are the furthest appart and can't "see" each other (not sure if the AP800 has AP discovery, if it does not use a laptop in exactly the position the AP will be in) . If the furthest appart can see each other then use 1, 5, 9 and 13, but you will get reduced performance. Also check that any neighbours APs can't be seen, if so put the AP at that point on a channel as far away as possible form the neighbours.

Thanks for the reply i take it the passwords etc need to be the same aswell.?
And just to confirm all AP's are setup as
.AP
.Same SSID
. Same Password
. Different Channel

That is correct - and it is probably worth ensuring all AP's have been updated to the same/latest firmware 1.0.3.1 http://www.support.draytek.co.uk/download/vap800_1031.zip

Thanks for the help
Just one more quick question is it normal for the new AP's to be asking for the password when i get into range of them, or should it just automatically switch to the best signal?
