Extending Wifi Range was created by gungey
Hi

I've got a 2860 with wifi that covers most of my house, but we've got a couple of blackspots and it's not convenient to relocate the router.

I've seen that there are wifi extender products which seem to effectively create a new Wifi network, meaning I need to set up access/security settings on a second product. Is there a way I can connect something to the 2860 to broadcast on the same SSID and use the same wifi user/pass and security settings - basically so I can manage everything from the router? I can run some cable from one device to another.

Any help would be appreciated!

Haven't tried myself but until someone else reply you need Wireless LAN >> WDS Settings section and perhaps with one of these guide with the extender you have
Note other 3rd part extenders should be very similar

Thankyou :). So, if I bought an AP-800 I could add it to the network with the same SSID and it would use the same wifi pass, ect?

I have an AP-700 set up exactly as you describe with the same wifi credentials as the Vigor 2920 and it works fine. Mine is connected via cable (via the main network switch) but the AP is programmed independently with the same SSID and password - it doesn't get any wifi credentials from the Vigor 2920 and W2008R2 server deals with DHCP so DHCP in the AP and the Vigor 2920 is set to OFF. AP points to 2920 as gateway - I'm sure the 2920 would assign DHCP addresses if it was set as DHCP server and AP DHCP server was set to OFF, although mine is not configured this way

I have also tried this, my 2820 dose not cover everywhere at home so I got a AP800, using the same SSID BUT I had t enter everything from the 2820 for credentials, I also wonted to cheat and let the 2820 do all the work, but I could not get it do so
