Draytek 2830 WiFi Issues... was created by davida1992
Hi, I am having some issues with the WiFi on a Draytek 2830n.

I tried this at my own house and it appeared to work fine, i then took it back to where it will live and did some testing, this is the setup.

When the router is configured it gets Sync, internet connection works over wired devices, DHCP is given from the server and everything is great!

However, when you try to connect a wireless device I have found a few different things happen:
I tried to connect a laptop and enter the password for Wifi it tries to connect me and fails, the wireless SSID then disappears for the laptop completely and I can only seem to get it back by restarting the Draytek.
The SSID still showed for my phone so i tried to connect that and it just kept coming up on the phone that the network was Saves but it would not connect at all.

I have tried moving the Draytek, removing the ADSL cable and still has the same effect. At this point i remvoed the LAN1 cable connecting it to the main network, restarted the Draytek and enabled DHCP on the Draytek and it seemed to connect just fine with the phone and laptop at this point, when i connect it to the main network this issues start to occur!

The main network is nothing major, it has about 5 PC's a couple of visa machines and a few IP cameras, all internal, nothing is external facing.

I took a little look at the logs and not sure what they mean, is there anything I can do to troubleshoot this more? I have attached the logs I could fine.

Thanks!

I have managed to try with a different Draytek, same make and model today. Same issue!

Here are some more logs:

Try using a wireless scanner on a pc such as acrylic wifi scanner and see if it's broadcasting continuously. I think checking whether it's conflicting with another router on the same channel would be good as well, in which case change the wifi channel to one that's free.
Also have you tried different wireless settings? i.e. make sure it's using WPA2/PSK only mode (required for 11n speeds), try 20mhz mode from the advanced page and try turning wmm on/off

The company is in the middle nowhere. There are no other access points broadcasting other than the ones onsite. There are two other access points that are far away from the Draytek. When you are near the router the other access points dont even pick up on my laptop, i also checked on the Draytek to see if it picks up the other WiFi devices and it doesnt. Just to make sure i unplugged the other AP's so nothing was broadcasting at all other than the Draytek. I have also set the Draytek to pick up a channel automatically instead of manually.

I have tried two Draytek's same model that have the same effect. But it only happens when onsite at this particular location, i have tried both at home and it doesn't occur. Really confused on this!

I have also tried turning off anything near the router that could broadcast a signal such as cordless telephones and a British Gas Boiler monitoring tool.

Usually a BT Business Hub would be in place of the Draytek and that shows wireless and has people connected without an issue, I have litterally unplugged the BT hub, and replaced it with the Draytek and they have this issue with wireless.

Any other ideas?

Thanks!

It could be that there's something on the 2.4GHz band that isn't wi-fi so the router wouldn't see it. Try going through different channels with the channel bandwidth set to 20MHz to see if any of the 13 channels gets it working.

Beyond that, try setting up another AP near the router, use AP discovery on the router you're having trouble with and see if it can see the other AP, if it can't then maybe the wireless hardware has a problem.

try set different channels between the 2830 & the AP's (example 6 the 2830, 1 , 11)
Also try change the order of the antennas at the 2830 example change the left with the right & the opposite or turn them around 5 degree
