Extending the wireless with AP for 3 SSID was created by chrisshuker
Hello All

I have a customer with a Draytek 2862 using three SSIDs that all provide a secure separate network to access the Internet

However I need to extend the range of this as coverage is weak in a couple of areas of the building.

The Access Points can be linked back to the router with network cables but I do not understand
how I can maintain the separate wireless networks at each Access Point

Can anybody explain if this is possible?

Thanks
Chrisxx

So that for example my router
Router -
SSID1- main - ip 1.x
SSID2 - traders - ip 2.x
SSID3 - Guest - ip 3.x

Linked network cable

Access Point
SSID1- main - ip 1.x
SSID2 - traders - ip 2.x
SSID3 - Guest - ip 3.x

Presumably you are using VLANs to give the SSIDs different IP ranges.

If you tag the separate LANs with VLAN tags and put the tag numbers in the AP settings the AP will assign the SSIDs accordingly (works with Draytek APs, I don't know about others).

Just make sure that all VLANS are transmitted through the connecting cable by assigning them all to the connecting port.

For some reason Draytek APs don't seem to accept a VLAN tag if the "isolate LAN" or "isolate member" boxes are ticked (at least not in every case, the behaviour appears somewhat random) but that may or may not be of concern.

(I'm not an expert in these things, but this works for me).
