look i am really sorry but i have no idea how to use the router functionality. sorry you have been landed with someone with such limited understanding!!

thanks but i can get the files but cannot open them! I think all round my patience for any draytek products is coming to an end!! I now need to switch off and on the router at least 3 times a day. not productive and not effective!

The files that you have if they are the firmware files would need to be used with the Router Tools, which you can get here:
http://www.draytek.co.uk/support/download/RouterTools_420_Win.zip
That is assuming you're running Windows rather than OS X or anything like that.
Once the router tools are installed, you can run the firmware upgrade utility it installs and then follow the guide for flashing the router firmware.

i have tried upgrading and get the following messages:
request time out. transfer abort!
then
you should be reset router for normal work
