hi folks,

1) I use a V 2820Vn and would like to extend the range to include our garage located 50m away. Will this set up work?
: AP700 inside the garage and one of the standard antenna in use for transmit/ receive whilst the second antenna is replaced with a ANT 2510 placed outside the garage.

2) On the draytek antenna info page it states that routers with 2 antenna use one to transmit and one to receive. Does this apply to the AP700 or both transmit and receive?

many thanks

Now set this up and can confirm that both AP700 antenna perform Tx and RX. The 2820Vn now has a wirless link using and extermal 3dB omniantenna to a 8dB patch panel on a AP700. Works just fine over 35m.

Hi John,

I'm trying to set up my AP-700 to extend the range of my wireless network. I have a 2820n. I can't seem to get it working, I was wondering if I could trouble you for details on exactly how you set it up?

Both the 2820n and AP-700 are updated to the latest firmware. These are the settings I am using (all defaults except where shown):

AP-700 SETTINGS
Basic Settings
- Mode: Universal Repeater
- Band: BGN
- Main SSID: [same as 2820n SSID]
- Channel: 3
- Associated clients: Any machines I connect wirelessly to the AP-700 show up here
- Root AP SSID: [same as 2820n SSID]
WPS Settings
- Disabled
Security Settings (Set to the same as 2820n)
- Encryption: WPA-shared key
- WPA Mode: WPA2 (AES)
- Pre-shared Key Format: Passphrase
- Pre-shared Key: [same as 2820n]
System Utility:
- IP Address: 192.168.1.2
- Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
- Gateway Address: 192.168.1.1 (IP address of 2820n)
- DHCP Server: Disabled

2820n SETTINGS
LAN
- Bind IP to MAC: I have 5 IPs reserved for certain machines on the network
Wireless LAN - General Setup
- Mode: Mixed (BGN)
- SSID: [same as AP-700 SSID]
- Channel: 3
Wireless LAN - Security
- Mode: WPA2/PSK
- PSK: [same as AP-700]
Wireless LAN - WPS
- Disabled
Wireless LAN - WDS
Now here I've tried a few settings, none of which have worked yet. Current settings are:
- Mode: Repeater
- Security: Pre-shared Key
- Pre-shared Key: WPA2
- Key: [same as AP-700]
- Repeater - 1 Peer MAC Address (the AP-700), set to Enabled
Wireless LAN - AP Discovery
- the AP-700 shows up in the list with the correct SSID, etc
Wireless LAN - Station list
- Any machines I connect wirelessly to the 2820n show up here

Do these differ from your settings? Am I doing something stupid?!

Cheers,

Nathan

Hi,

Sorry if I mislead everyone (including myself) on linking to the 2820 wireless directly!

The link is still good but on investigation is had actually linked through a Solwise home plug wireless connection, then to the 2820 but not the 2820 wireless. I have now installed the AP 700 at another location ( 2800 plus as DHCP, then by LAN to a netgear DG834ver3 as wireless AP, then wireless chain to a second AP Netgear WN 802T , then second wireless chain to the AP700) and so can't retest for you. I have another unit coming next week which I will keep for my use and will test direct on 2820 wireless.

Note that:
I had to turn off the bind to MAC in order to make the above work. The AP700 was assigned an IP but could not connect to internet or other LAN IP's.

Try resetting the 2820 then power up the AP. This also helped establish a link.

try with all security off - mine was and is at present.

Free porn aside** I now have my second AP700 set up and working in REPEATER mode with the 2820Vn set as a basic access point with wireless on but no WDS set. Note it is not set as REPEATER or BRIDGE mode as it is the root AP with wirelesson. (basic settings)

Note for Lance and DRAYTEK ADMIN here:

Although the AP700 (with DHCP disabled) provides IP address to wireless clients from the root 2820AP DHCP, the clients can't access the web if LINK to MAC is enabled. Having the AP 700 MAC in the list or not makes no difference. However with MAC enabled the 2820 root AP works fine as does a wired NETGEAR AP and a Solwise home plug wireless on the same LAN.

IN summary: the AP 700 will not allow internet access if Bind to MAC is enabled even if the AP 700 is not listed and all clients have IP address form the DHCP.

anyone else have this issue? I'll post to Draytek tech.
