What operating system are you finding this problem with?

This sort of thing does happen with Vista and Win7, unfortunately the PDF guide assumes that you are running Pro/Ultimate/Business and the setting you need to change isn't present on Home editions.

I'm using Windows XP but they should all be similar. Are you sure you put in the Samba username and password OK as in step 2 of my post. you can easily change it by clicking the relevant (probably first) Index number and having another go.
Also is your Network Place present and correct? There should be an entry in the list that says:
Name: username on Vigor 2820 Samba Server (192.168.1.1)
Comment: \\192.168.1.1\username
Computer:Home Computer (Computername) [I'm not sure where the info on this item is from - I assume it's the windows set-up]

The properties of thedesktop shortcut are:
General tab is just the name of the shortcut,
Shortcut tab shows Target: \\192.168.1.1\username, Start in: blank, Shortkey: none, Run in: Normal window

I have so many IDs and passwords I'm always forgetting which is used where.
Hope you work it out

i'm still at the adding network location stage, I browse, it finds it, its the password I use it dont like...and its windows not the 2710n I think, sharings on,

its something simple to turn on, or I'm not doing, I'll find it or someone will tell me ....

1905 well, Ive disabled guest user and now \\192.168.11\public works as a network place... but \\192.168.1.1\user1 still asks for the password and dont like either of the 2 passwords on this pc/network...I'll keep looking

Windoze carries forward the current user name by default. Thy mapping a network drive but select "Connect using a different user name". That is the XP wording. Later systems may be different.
