Vigor 2800 21CN ADSL2+ and Zen Internet Compatibility?

2.8.2.1 beta is pretty much the last firmware for the 2800 I think, I've tested it and it makes lots of improvements over the 2.8.2 firmware, improved PPP stability, better 3G support, fixes lots of wireless issues etc. I'm not sure why it was never moved to a final release firmware.

The 2820 doesn't have any of the issues that the 2800 has though, because of the different modem chipset / hardware.

Thanks Voodle,

Draytek have also confirmed the firmware improves 21CN support.

Someone else had mentioned that the 2800 does not handle noise very well and that this had been resolved in the 2820 with a new chipset. We had an issue around 6 months ago where the router kept disconnecting and reconnecting, there was a pattern showing it would disconnect for longer periods of time at 2am and 4am:)
Turned out to be the fax machine, swapped it out for a new one and havent had a problem since.

Well for what it's worth I have updated the firmware to the beta version and when connecting via multimode it now has a status mode of ADSL2+ so something has changed. However, downspeed is still only 5.6Meg so I guess a new router is in order. Still waiting on Zen to get back to me to ensure everything is OK their end. If I get anywhere I will post back.

I've put 2.8.2.1 onto 10 2800's to see how it performs on 21CN and 20CN circuits, some of the 21CN circuits regraded for ADSL2+ and some not.

These are all on Zen circuits.

What I've seen so far is that:

- the 20CN are connecting with the same bandwidth.

- the 21CN not ADSL2+ are now connecting with improved bandwidth. This looks like this is recovering the bandwidth drop I saw when the circuit was moved from 20CN to 21CN.

- the 21CN ADSL2+ enabled circuits are all showing similar bandwidth as prior the upgrade. All have ~ 1Mb upstream.

Having tried Multimode, G.992.5 and G.992.3 I have yet to see any 2800 on a 21CN ADSL2+ connecting at anything other than G.DMT.

Alan

[update: after 12 hours I've now seen one of the routers negotiate ADSL2+]

[update 2: While initially using G.DMT I'm seeing the routers eventually using G.992.5.]

Thanks for the info Alan.

BT did the upgrade last night, Zen informed me it would be at 2am or 4am and would take 15 minutes. I checked my email at 11pm last night and had no access to Outlook web access, the email I sent from my hotmail account to my work account arrived at 3am so we must have been disconnected for at least 4 hours.

I have not regraded the ZEN service, upgraded the firmware from 2.8.2 and have left modulation as G.DMT. Download speed has increased from 3.8mbps to 5mbps, upload has not changed at 736 kbps.

I have left syslog running to see if we get any disconnections.
