Okay
UDP Flood Control off and SO FAR I am still working fine after an hour, this morning I could barely manage 5-10 minutes.
Fingers crossed for the morning.
MANY thanks for the assistance.

You need to change the syslog port on the router side to 1024 if you're using the mac syslog client.
Also, that's great that got things working
The reason it happens is the UDP threshold is fairly low - with a network generating enough UDP traffic, that can get triggered and because DNS uses UDP, that gets blocked too, upping the threshold also works.

Hi VoodieRobster wrote:
I am having real trouble getting Syslog on my Mac!
Even tried running Windows syslog on XP under VMware but this has not worked either!
However I DO have full Firewall and DoS enabled including UDP Flood control, I will try and disable and see if that improves things.
I am puzzled though why it was working perfectly for nearly two weeks and then starting exhibiting these problems.

Many thanks for you assistance.
If I was to change the settings, what would you suggest as a good setting?
I have changed to port for syslog but still not able to get anything on Mac or Windows syslogbclients!

I had a similar issue earlier in the year. Once it was diagnosed, we turned the UDP Flood defense up to 500 threshold over 10 seconds (on the advice of Draytek tech support). No issues since!

I have no updated mine with these figures and re-enabled UDP Flood Defence.
