Setup Seperate Internal Network was created by itgeek46
Hi all, I hope you can help.

I have a Draytek 2760n which is connected to my ISP (VDSL) and this is working fine. In my office at home, I have a Draytek 2830n which I want to use for my lab, this will need to connect to the default gateway but not interfere with the devices/network connected to the 2760n.

The 2830n will have a Server 2012R2 server (180-day license) and Cisco 2950 24 port switch, as I am doing my CCNA and MCSA.

I have a CAT6 cable running from the 2760n directly to the 2830n. I downloaded the 345-page User Guide and skimmed through this, with no outcome.

I would appreciate any help/support regarding this. I will also send this email to the technical team at Draytek and if I get a positive outcome from there, I will post it in here for others.

Thank you in advance.

Hi All

I think I have resolved this myself, please see below, what I completed and I would appreciate any feedback, good or bad.

On the 2830n from factory settings, set all passwords for admin and wireless, connected to LAN1 on the 2760n to WAN2 on the 2830n, configured the WAN2 to a static IP (Ethernet) of my server 2012R2, with the default gateway and subnet mask the same as the rest of my network....

Server: 192.168.1.10
Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

The router 2830n does not have DHCP enabled and the DNS is running from 192.168.1.10 (Server).

DHCP is setup on the server 2012R2 and has a scope of 15 IP addresses and I have reserved 5 of those IP addresses (192.168,1,5 to 192.168.1.10), to allow for DNS and DHCP on the server to communicate, however, I think this needs to be on completely different network as;
192.168.2.1 to 20

Within the configuration for 2830n I have enabled WAN-Internet Access and specified an IP Address for the DHCP, but when I complete an ipconfig /all, it shows as no DHCP on the server connected to the 2830n.

I gain an internet connection but I think this is going to throw my whole internet out and cause problems with my ISP DHCP, can someone please assist me with this.....Thank you in advance.

I received this from Draytek Support In January 2017 and unfortunately this didn't work either;

1.Plug an Ethernet cable from the LAN port of the 2830 to the LAN port of the 2760

2. Change the LAN 1 IP address on the 2830 to 192.168.1.2 and the default gateway to 192.168.1.1 the LAN address of the 2760.

3. On the 2830 , Disable DHCP Server and Enable Relay Agent
Enter DHCP Server IP Address as the IP address of the DHCP server
Click OK to apply. or you could add in dns the ip address of the server.

Hope this helps let me know how you get on.

I'll keep trying :(.

I have sent an email to Draytek Support as the following;

Dear Support

I recently purchased a 2760n router, which is great and works well with my ISP (TalkTalk), however, I have another room that I have set a lab up for my studies in MCSA and CCNA.

In this lab I have a Draytek 2830n, I want to put this on a separate network to my ISP (192.168.1.1), but still, access the internet. I believe I need to create a subnet 192.168.2.1?

I have spent hours reading the user guide and watching various videos and I cannot figure out how to configure my routers 2760n and 2830n to allow this to happen, can you assist, please?

Small background;

2760n - 192.168.1.1 = ISP & DHCP

2830n - No IP Assigned (192.168.2.1?), = This will have a home Lab Server 2012R2, DHCP, DNS Active Directory/Domain Controller on an 180day license. Once I have the server connected correctly I will be adding a Cisco 2950 24port switch.

Thank you in advance for your assistance and I look forward to your reply.

Kind regards

Dave

I update appropriately.

Your Vigor 2830 will obtain an IP address on its WAN2 port within the V2760's LAN (192.168.1.0). WAN2 needs to be set tp DHCP client (static/dynamic) IP. Your Vigor 2830 on the LAN side needs to be set to a different local subnet, e.g. 192.168.2.0 (the router being .1 normally).

You say 'separate' - in what way? Do you mean distinct ? The Vigor 2830 LAN will, however, have access to the Vigor 2760's LAN devices (though not the other way around).

Why not just have a vlan of one of the ports off your VDSL router and set it to use LAN2. Configure LAN2 in the router not to have DHCP enabled.

Use a normal switch in your lab to connect all your lab machines together.

On the lab server, set the DHCP to use the VDSL router has your default gateway, and if the want the lab server to run DNS you'll need to configure it appropriately.
