2862 - only 4 LAN ports? was created by juleswilko
Anyone else noticed / disappointed by the 2862 only having 4 LAN ports?

Minor irritation for some things, but personally I like to have server iDRAC / iLO patched straight in to the router rather than via a switch (point of failure elimination).

Petty cost cutting? Or justified cost cutting?

Regards

Jules

4 or 5 LAN ports. Port 5 can be WAN2 or LAN by the looks of it.
Certainly a step backwards as far as I'm concerned.

Neither; the architecture needed more of the i/o for wireless I think so to add more LAN ports would need lots more components.

Agreed 6 ports was great for a main kit to be patched in to.

I liked the 2850 ADSL & VDSL on the same port and then 2860 removed it but gave us more ports.

Seems a step back to no remove the ports and dual DSL on one port.

Slightly off topic but I've noticed that if I'm on an extended Skype call with the 2862, after about an hour the router will just shut down and re-boot itself for no apparent reason. Not only is this annoying as the call drops, but I'm trying to keep a long term stable connection in the somewhat vain hope that DLM will "reband" me up again after a recent series of speed reductions

Definetly a big step backwards :(

I've got a 2860 deployed in a large office with 6 port based VLANs. If it dies it'll be a struggle to replace it.
