Are the PC's you are trying to connect to running the Windoze firewall or any other one? Also are they set up for simple file-sharing (Windows Explorer > Tools > Folder Options > View Tab > Use simple file sharing).

The PCs have the Windows firewall running, and Kaspersky. Kaspersky anti-hacker has the two networks defined as trusted.

Simple file sharing is set.

I'm curious here. I don't know Kasperski, but I would have thought that anti-hacker would have disabled the Window's firewall. In the case that it has not, did you go into the Windows firewall for the four File and Printer Sharing ports and change their scopes?

Can you temporarily try disabling the firewall on the PC you are trying to access?

I am beginning to run out of ideas.

No more ideas required! I turned off both firewalls and it worked, so then I turned on the Windows firewall and it failed. So now I have both firewalls on, having changed the scopes of the ports in the Windows firewall, and it all works! This means I can fix the 2600 installation as well, I suspect.

I am getting too old for learning something new every day!

My grateful thanks - again
