Lan to Lan Network Neighborhood Win 7 was created by joelang1699
Just got my first Lan to Lan VPN set up between my two 2820s and traffic can pass between with no issues however systems from either site do not show up under windows network neighborhood. Is it possible to make this happen or am i going to need to use WINS server?

NETBIOS needed for that. Won't traverse an IPsec VPN.

I believe a WINS server at each end of the tunnel would work.

Does the WINS pass across the VPN though? I thought it wasn't routable - mind you its been a while since i ever tried it.

I'm not certain. NetBIOS is not routable, but I can use WINS across a PPTP VPN (not Draytek). The scenario I was imagining was a couple of PC's at either end running samba for WINS. I believe the two samba boxes can be configured to talk to each other and they can decide which is the master. It is the only WINS server I know anything about.

Since AD I have to admit to ditching WINS and do everything with AD DNS. But it has its place! The PPTP you had success with - was that a Windows Server PPTP setup? Cause that i think has NetBIOS support right?
