As far as I know there is still a 'feature' in recent Android releases preventing L2TP/IPsec VPNs from connecting, see: https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=196939

I am now using the SSL VPN which works fine.

Yes is definitely a known issue on the Android side for sure. I discovered this when I purchased my first Draytek, everything but that functions.

I have resorted to the PPTP, as is never connected for very long, however the SSL approach sounds far more secure, will try the app.

Thanks

DrayTek made a lot of improvements to its L2TP/IPsec implementation recently and most Android handsets should be supported. I just tested connecting to my 2860 from the following phones using the phone's built-in L2TP/IPsec (PSK) client with no issues:

Handset / Model number / Android version
LG Optimus F6 / MS500 / 4.1.2
Samsung Galaxy S4 / GT-I9505G / 5.1
Sony Xperia ZL / C6505 / 5.1.1
Motorola Moto X Style / XT1575 / 6.0
LG V20 / US996 / 7.0

The following handset did not connect:

HTC Sensation XE / Z715e / 4.0.3 - connection timed out

If you are still having issues, try the following:

  1. Check to make sure you are using the latest router firmware (3.8.4.2 as of this writing).

  2. If you are on a mobile network, make sure your phone's network settings support IPv4 (APN Protocol is either IPv4 or IPv4/IPv6, not IPv6 only).

  3. If you are using a domain address for the endpoint, try using the IPv4 numeric address instead.
