Sitting here in Italy with an iPhone 11 and a Surface laptop both connected to the hotel wifi

iPhone will connect immediately to the VPN on my 2927ax back in the UK

Windows PC simply returns "Username and/or password not valid on the domain" when trying to connect using exactly the same credentials.

Happens with both the Windows VPN client and the Draytek Smart VPN client, and turning off Kaspersky firewall makes no difference.

Frustrating doesn't really cover it.....

Is it automatically sending the Windows Username / Password? (Assuming it's supposed to match something stored on the 2927ax)

I have a dial-in user profile set up on the 2927 and put in the Username and Password and Shared secret in the VPN client. In the Draytek Smart client on the iPhone these credentials connect straight away using IPsec XAuth

In the Draytek client on Windows the XAuth part doesn't appear to be available but I can't get any sort of IPsec to work.

I don't think Xauth is supported by the built-in Windows 10 client.

Draytek have a tutorial for using something called ShrewSoft .

The download page is here: https://www.shrew.net/download/vpn

There's a free version which looks like it will do, but it apparently installs in Pro mode (and runs like that for 14 days).

(Never used it )

I'm not using the built in Windows client, I'm using Draytek smart client for Windows. I'd rather hoped that would work :D

Still, home tomorrow so it's a bit moot. Will try at home with 4G internet via tethered phone to the laptop and see if I can get it to work.

I don't think it does much (for IPSec), other than manipulate the "To Vigor" RAS entry...
