I already posted a question re my new router and slow wireless lan and looking at similar questions on the forum the problem lies with in my case the broadcom wireless nic fitted to my Compaq laptop. I found a USB g dongle and installed it, what an amazing difference. Now I have on order 3 draytek 5db antenna and a draytek n dongle and following this little successful exercise I know I am now going to see an even bigger improvement. Incidentally Im on win 7 64 bit Ultimate.
