Have you thought of installing cygwin (www.cygwin.org) on your PC? This provides a "UNIX" type of environment in which a variety of UNIX scripts can be executed. Although I use Macs, I also have an IBM laptop (ThinkPad R50E) which has cygwin and I find this useful.
