iPhone 4 on WAN3? was created by psykix
After ditching Draytek routers some time ago, I bought another with the intention of being able to plug my iPhone 4 into the USB port and configure it as a 3G USB Modem.

I cannot get it to work however.

It works plugged into my Macbook Pro just fine.

It's a business contract on Vodafone, but I have a 3 sim on the One Plan on the way. Anyone know if I am flogging a dead horse here, or just doing something wrong?

I'm amazed I can find so little about Draytek routers and iPhone on a Google search!

Cheers..

You can try this guide (is from a 2820 model but where it says wan 2 do it with your model at wan 3)
http://www.draytek.co.uk/support/kb_vigor_3g.html
But i am not sure if iphone 4 is supported ... check with the support team and rase a ticket (of course come back to your thread if any other user have some success)

Also note not all draytek models offering 4G modem support but only 3G
Supported 3G modems (note this list is old so may new modems added by now)

Thanks for the reply, I had looked at that guide. It doesn't quite tally up with my Draytek 2830n on 3.6.4 firmware though.

If I can find a nice cheap phone which works and will take a micro sim then would be happy to just buy that to be honest!

I can't use a dongle, as the T&C's for the 3 One Plan sim only allow use in a mobile phone, but do allow tethering.

Cheers..

Thanks again for the reply.

I can confirm that the iPhone utility does not work with the iPhone 4 - the import fails.

I'll drop them a message and see if there is anything they can do...

the iphone wan support is a shame, I used to use it with my iphone 3G a long time ago with the 2820 which worked well enough until I found out just how much data a month "unlimited" means with o2 hehe (4gb for the curious)

Sadly, the way draytek implemented it relied upon a connection method that went away when the "Personal Hotspot" facility was introduced and there's been nothing to replace it. Personally I used a mini AP such as the TP link wr702n to connect to my iPhone 4's personal hotspot and use that connected to the WAN2 port for some double NATted but functional backup internet :D
