For anyone that's interested....

I got my leased line increased to 300/300 and tested with my Draytek 2925 which also sports a so called 300Mbps throughput.

In reality, it topped out at 240Mbps down and only about 210Mbps up. This is with no services on whatsoever.

I've now removed the 2925 and installed a gigabit switch instead. (I only used it for extra ports anyway)

Now I get 288Mbps down, 288Mbps up, which is about right for 300 including overheads.

That's surprising, was that with the default MTU of 1442 / 1492 or was that increased to 1500?

Also was Hardware Acceleration enabled?

HW Acceleration turned off as it caused me problems.

MTU was 1500.

I've retired it now (sitting in the cupboard).

I'm a bit puzzled, you swapped a router for a switch? How does that work? Can you elaborate a bit?

Yep

I have a 300/300 leased line so my end point is Ethernet from a Cisco ME3400.

I used the draytek "as a switch" to route my traffic.

I used the WAN port to statically assign one of my 14 IPs, and IP routed subnet to hang other stuff off.

In the end I removed it and used a normal switch with VLAN.

We have Virgin's 220mb Service with a Hitron router connected to the Draytek's WAN port.

Using Speedtest.net we are getting 215-220mb download every time.
