2860 is up to 200mb's I suspect the firewall maybe limiting it which your tests seem to confirm. What happens if you disable the firewall??

Hi

Thanks for the responses.

MTU was at 1500 and it was via a PC connected via cable to a LAN port.

I've tried with the data/call filters off along with disabling the ddos protection but these seem to make little or no difference.

I do seem to remember the firewall being rated at 200Mpbs although this has since been increased to 300 and I wonder if this was through firmware updates or a hardware revision. If the latter I may just be out of luck.

Draytek have asked for a copy of my config so I've sent this and will post back findings in case this ever comes up again.

Thanks

That's a strange result - can you try using the SH2 in modem mode and connect a PC directly to it so that the PC has a public IP address, then check whether the speed test results are the same as the SH2 or the DrayTek?

Hi...

Thought i would jump in here as i have the exact same setup.... VM 200MB [mine is 200 nor 220] & VM Docsis3 cable modem in modem mode.

I was worried about throughput but i do get the full 200MB on a consistent basis.

I have also recently upgraded to the latest firmware.
HW accel is on auto but i dont think it works as throughput is still showing in traffic graph & data flow monitor

call & data filter are both disabled and i dont use any of the filtering applications / profiles at home.

So you should be able to get 200 too.....

Sorry if this doesn't really help you

Hi

Thanks for the feedback, seems 200 is possible under certain conditions. The below is the response I got from Draytek and while our definition of the word maximum varies, it at least answers the question.

For what it's worth, disabling all the gubbins does get me 200 which is within 5% of the SH2 or a loan Edgemax router I've tried (again with the SH2 in modem mode and connected to the WAN port). I think for the 5% I'll stick with the Draytek, but only until VM do their next round of upgrades.

I have looked through your config. I cannot see any issues with the speeds. You did not mention that you have load balance policies set. This will of course effect the speed across all the WAN ports including WAN2.

The specifications for the WAN2 port speed on the 2860 is a Maximum of 300Mbps, this means that you will not achieve a regular throughput of 300Mbps as it is a Maximum speed.

The theoretical throughput will be around 200 - 230 Mbps, this is something that you would achieve regularly.

However you will only achieve this if you have factory reset the router and then only configure the WAN2 internet and no other features. The moment you start configure load balancing or fail over or other features, the speed will be reduced.

This is not a fault it is the normal behaviour of the Router.

But i'm pretty sure the max speed that Virgin do is actually 200Mb. I have seen this reported up to 210 on mine and a friend's connection though.
Not sure where you get 220 from?

When i was on the 155 service i always reported around 160 too.
