Slower speeds with 2860n was created by wdesousa
Hi guys, first post...

I recently had an additional internet connection installed through Virgin Media Business.

My setup is as follows:

Virgin Media Superhub 2 in Modem Mode connected to WAN 2 on the 2860n - using Obtain an IP address automatically. Router connects to unmanaged switch.
BT Business Broadband ADSL connected to WAN 1 through ADSL cable - in Failover mode.

All working fine except I haven't checked whether Failover actually works.

My questions is on speeds. If I connect a lappy directly to Virgin Media Superhub then i get speeds of 170mb/s + - which is close to the advertised 200mb.
However, connecting through the router I'm getting speeds of between 70-90mb.

Is the 2860n not capable of handling the faster speeds or could it be cabling? or even the switch? The switch is a solid 24port gigabyte one. And cabling is fairly new CAT5e and CAT6.

Any suggestions much appreciated...

Check Bandwidth Management >> Quality of Service and see if it disabled for wan 2

Is it negotiating gigabit on wan2 to superhub? Check telnet command "port status".

Thanks very much for the replies chaps.

QOS is disabled

Telnet: % WAN2 : link UP , speed= 1000 Mbps, duplex= FULL, FlowControl= ON

It's strange because it's only choking download speeds - upload speeds are virtually the same direct to superhub and through 2860.
Speed tested again and its losing between 80-90mbs through the 2860, and the ping goes from low single digits to the mid teens if that explains anything.

mmmm

Is hardware acceleration turned off ?

Is the firewall configured with DOS defense enabled ?

What firmware version is running ?

Just installed latest firmware - 3.8.4.2BT
Hardware acceleration is disabled
DOS Defence not enabled

I also had issues with failover as the 2860 was losing the WAN 2 Virgin Media connection (fast one) but not switching to the VDSL BT connection (slow as treacle). It would only switch across if the Virgin Media Superhub was actually powered off. So I've set both connections to load balancing which so far is working fine.

But still losing almost half of the available bandwidth approx 90+ mb/s, can anyone confirm that the 2860n+ is actually capable of delivering modern fibre speeds?

appreciate all your help and suggestions :-)

EDIT: I meant the 2860..
