Crashing 2862AC was created by madexmatt
Hi,

I'm on my second 2862, that's got a very basic config on a BT line.

I don't have power issues and i'm on my 2nd replacement router - randomly the router reboots.

Any one experiencing this, i'm at wits end and i'm having to use my BT router as my line is taking a performance hit.

(Several tech support cases and the drayek support guys not knowing how to troubleshoot properly other than sending off my zero information crash log)

Tried everything you can think of to resolve.

I've seen these random reboots with no crash info as well (and nothing useful in syslog - either USB or to syslog server). I do not have power issues either. I've not bothered logging a case..... This goes back many firmware versions, maybe back into the 3.8.8's.

I did have a couple of these restarts a week but now maybe one every two weeks (average, sometimes shorter interval, sometimes longer). Often the restarts happen whilst there is active traffic (making them inconvenient).

Reason for improvement is not clear. At one time I was monitoring my VDSL closely and would stay logged into the DSL status page of the web UI - the reduction might have coincided roughly with me winding down that practice (I now only log unto the web UI for brief periods). Possibly the reduction could have come from the last few updates (3.9.1 onw.)

Amusingly, in case some kind of memory leak was involved, I decided to setup a scheduled restart in the early hours of Monday morning... It didn't trigger!

[Rough config: VDSL negotiating at 80/20, A couple of VLANs set up, Normal + Guest wifi both 2.4 & 5GHz, Syslog to USB and a pi syslog server. Manly access is NAT to one IP of a /29 but config includes routing of other public IPs to other VLANS (currently infrequently used and not correlating with the restarts), moderately complex firewall rules]
(edit for typos)

My solution was to move to a 130 as the modem and hence isolate the DSL line from the router. The 130 is pretty solid. I've been through a 2860, 2862, 2925 and am currently using a 2926ac. All have experienced the random re-boot issue. The 2926ac re-boots itself every few days for no reason that I have been able to ascertain.

I presume that was just to prevent the DSL infrastructure from de-rating your line? I presume that the restarts are still happening?

Yes, it was annoying enough having to reboot the router when making many of the configuration changes. I decided I could do without that. As said above, the 2926 reboots itself every few days - I can usually tell when my TV suddenly announces that it is no longer connected to the internet. This doesn't affect the 130 though, so my vdsl speed stays unaffected.
I've read the Support Pages guide to resolving frequent reboots but none of their suggestions work for me.
