iPhone 4.3.3 - broken VPN? was created by glynh
Hi there,

Have had VPN working on my iPhone for well over a year using iOS 3.1.2 but after upgrading the iPhone to 4.3.3 VPN has stopped working?

My guess is Apple broke something in the upgrade and as Apple can do no wrong effectively means it is my router that is fault

Can some kind soul tell me please if there is a setting or upgraded firmware for the 2820Vn currently running 3.3.3_232201 that might allow my VPN to start working again please?

Figured I would stand a better chance here than on any Apple User Forum...

Read the Release Notes for Vigor 3.3.5.2 and don't see anything that might point to a solution?

Was also a little confused that the same Release Note mentions;

NOTE: ADSL Modem Codes
For general purpose usage on UK lines, modem code 232201 is recommened
For ADSL2+ Annex M lines, the latest modem code, 2471201 is suggested

As I am on O2 does this mean I have to download & install 2471201 as well as or instead of 3.3.5.2?

Thanks & kind regards,

It's working well here with an iPhone 4 with 4.3.3 firmware - the 2820 I'm connecting to has 3.3.5.2 firmware on it though.

Are you using L2TP with IPSec or PPTP?

Hmmm...4.3.3 definitely screwed something up for me.

Looks like many others have been complaining about 4.3.3 breaking their previously working VPN according to Google.

Had been using PPTP quite happily but tried L2TP and couldn't get that to work either...glad it works for you though!

Might try 3.5.5. when I get a few minutes.

Thanks & kind regards,

I can report that VPN no longer works for me after I upgraded my iPhone from 4.3.1 to 4.3.3

My iPad2 with 4.3.3 also has broken VPN.

I wonder if its only Draytek VPN connections that have been affected.

cheers
Tony

Now here's the thing.

I bought an iPad 2 last week and setup the standard VPN connection on it like I have done with all my iDevices. Sat in McDonald's as usual to setup Internet access & try remote connections to my system as I always do this morning and thought I would give it a go.

Wasn't expecting everything different but it connected first time!

Pulled iPhone out of my pocket, fired up VPN and it also worked?

This being the same iPhone that wouldn't connect for love nor money since I upgraded to 4.3.3

Now it hasn't had any further upgrades nor any other tweaks/setup (nor has my router) but it now connects?

Would like to find out why...maybe because I just downloaded the latest iTunes Beta?

Kind regards,

Interesting Glyn.

I might have to upgrade to the latest iTunes (am running 10.2.2.12).

Would be VERY interesting if doing that fixed it but who knows ! :)
