You are right. Connection to the VPN via the Draytek router is only possible, if you are outside your local network.

I tried the email notification with several draytek devices, and, it did work always, however never with a 2820.

for sending email if it does not work:
try to enter the IP address of the smtp server instead of the name
I dont know, if mobile-me supports unencrypted smtp, also, I dont know, if mobile-me supports the standard port 25.
if apple forces you to use encryption it will not work. give up, or find a mailserver which accepts unencrypted smtp.
If you can use unencrypted smtp, but have to use port 587, try to enter the smtp server like:
a.b.c.d:587, where a.b.c.d is the ip address of the smtp server.
The email address and the password may have a limit in the maximum characters. See here:

Hi

I game up on me.com and instead tried my googlemail.com email but I cannot get this to work either!

I do run a Synology NAS which can run an email server but I have no idea how to set one of these up, it sort of looks straightforward and I guess I could set up some kind of autoforward but it asks for a domain name for the mailserver and I do not have one and no idea what or how to set this up!

Any ideas or suggestions?

Robin

try:
something.local

for the domain name.

Do you mean literally something.local or for me to make up a name.local?

you can use anything I guess, but the extension ".local" is not used in the internet, but often used for private networks.

I hope the software wants just anything because it needs an name for the setup. If it needs a real domain then you will have to get yourself a domain name.
But try it out, worst case is, it will not send email.
