2820Vn PSTN Relay Not Working was created by busta999
Have setup PSTN Relay for the BT VM service and 999 service.

I you dial 1571, the number dials, I then get two fast beeps, a long pause the another dial tone.

If you you dial any number now it will go through the BT PSTN line.

So it is possible to dial the emergency number...

Dial 999, wait get two beeps, wait 10 seconds get a dialtone, then dial 999 again.

I am pretty certain this is not how it is supposed to be.

Anyone got any ideas on how to fix it?

PSTN Relay or Digit map can be used to automatically use the PSTN line for a call rather than the VoIP. Are you using the latest firmware? It works with 3.3.1.2

What do you have entered in PSTN Relay just 1571? If so dialling 1571 should get you through to the BT Answer service.

The equivalent configuration with Digit map would be

Prefix Number = 1571
Mode = None
OP Number = Left Empty
Min Len = 1
Max Len = 4
Interface = PSTN

Many thanks for your response

I am on the latest firmware

Model Name : Vigor2820 series
Firmware Version : 3.3.1.2_232201
Build Date/Time : May 12 2009 14:42:43
ADSL Firmware Version : 232201_A Annex A

The PSTN Relay is set to two number
1571 and 999

If I enter 1571 ont eh cordless phone then press dial I get a pause followed by two fast beeps, then a few seconds of sillence followed by a BT dialtone (I know it is a BT diatone because if I then dial 1571 it works.

I can get the #0 to work only if I put a multi second pause between the #0 and the 1571, ie put phone handset into handsfree, get a dialtone, enter #0 wait until I get another dialtone then dial the 1571.

This really messes up the speed dials and can make dialling 999 more than a bit tricky when it should be very easy.

I have got an open ticket with support but not getting very far very quickly :-)

No joy, I had disabled the PSTN relay, I get exactly the same problem, long pause followed by two fast beeps.

Is there a way I can insert a PAUSE into the Digit Map? I have tried the obvious P and , but it won't accept it.

At the moment I am very concerned, educating everyone who comes into the house that 999 doesn't work is not what I was aiming for with this router.

When I dial I get two fast beeps and then afterwards I get the BT callminder lady.

Have you tried a different phone with the router? It sounds like it could be an issue between the router and the phone.

Does your phone have two lines on it, ie does it plug into both the router phone port and into the PSTN line?

I don't know about pause, maybe support can help on that front.

Macavity

Thanks for the response.

I have tried my Panasonic cordless phones and my BT Synergy 4500 cordless phones. Both exhibit the same issue.

I don't have a 'plain old' phone, I could probably do with getting one.

The Phone line has only one line, and the phone only plugs into the router.

I have been engaging with support for a week.

I have spent about 15-20 hours on diagnosing this and trying to remedy it, including multiple wipes, change firmware, 3 different ways of getting an outside line properly.

I now have an RMA.
