Just got one of these it's the EU model with beta firmware already installed.
Haven't tried it yet though.

I managed to flash the 166 with the firmware from www.draytek.com so I don't think the unit is locked as such.
Interesting the firmware before was annex B and now is annex A.
Sometime I'll get around to testing it.

For some reason DrayTek's worldwide site (draytek.com) doesn't have any info or firmware support for the UK model.
All info & support for the V166-K is via draytek.co.uk only.

The international site changed my 166 from annex B to annex A so yes you can use it.
Still haven't tested it as yet.

You say you have an EU model so firmware from draytek.com will work, but it won't load onto the UK model.
You can spot UK firmware as it's name always ends in the letters BT (4.1.1.BT is the current release)

I'm quite intrigued by this statement (from 2016), by Draytek:

https://www.draytek.com/support/knowledge-base/5002 wrote: For ADSL/VDSL routers, there are two types of WAN interface. While Annex A is for ADSL over POTS, Annex B is for ADSL over ISDN. We may tell the annex type by checking the type or the color of the DSL port.

NOTE: Since there is a hardware difference between Annex A and Annex B, neither can we use an Annex A router on an Annex B line and vice versa, nor change the Annex Type by a firmware upgrade.

Perhaps the 'state-of-the-art' has moved on (and nobody told me  )
