Sorry, but that is exactly what cloning the MAC is for. Some older cable networks only allowed you to register one MAC address which was typically your PC's. Then if you bought a router you were forced to clone the PC's MAC address in the router.

It is totally correct to say use the PC's MAC address. The side effect of this that you can plug the CM into the router or PC without rebooting it in between.

I am going to test this out hopefully tomorrow, I shall tick obtain IP address automaticalyl and add the MAC address of the machine I am using.

I shall keep you posted :?

Ok I have tried this on my on another Virgin Internet, which did not work, I checked obtain IP address automatically and added the MAC address of the Laptop, restarted the router and modem and got nothing. One thing does concern me , when I initially set this up I set this up through the Quick Start Wizard and selected "Static IP address" is this correct or which should be selected from below

PPPoE
PPTP
L2TP
Static IP
DHCP

I think this is where I have been going wrong I had selected Static IP. I shall reset the router and try this again. I shall let you know how I get on this Friday. :oops:

It should not matter what you chose when using the wizard. You should be able to change the settings manually afterwards.
